Abstract
This dataset supports analyses of taxonomic and methodological biases in saproxylic beetle research, using 425 species collected from 28 veteran oak (Quercus spp.) sites across 10 countries in Europe, Turkey, and Israel. Data were collected using flight interception traps installed on mature oak trees sampled over one season per site between 1994 and 2012. The dataset comprises species-level records for 11 beetle families (Anobiidae, Buprestidae, Cleridae, Dermestidae, Elateridae, Erotylidae, Histeridae, Lucanidae, Mycetophagidae, Scarabaeidae, Tenebrionidae) and includes four variables: species name, family, larval trophic group (mycetophagous, saprophagous, sapro-xylophagous, xylophagous, zoophagous), and body length (mm). The data are suitable for analyses of body size bias in taxonomic discovery and trait-based ecological research on saproxylic insect assemblages.
