Abstract
The dataset comprises 173 browsing bites collected from willows (Salix spp.) at six study sites across the northern range of Yellowstone National Park in May 2018. For each bite, associated metadata include site, Salix species, tree and twig id, browsing bite height, browsed twig width, and mammalian browsing herbivore species. Herbivore identity was determined using bite-DNA metabarcoding.

Description: Herbivore browsing bites on willows (Salix spp.) in Yellowstone National Park (YNP)
Variables
-
SampleID: Unique sample identifier
-
Site: Name of the study site within YNP
-
TwigID: Identifier of sampled twig
-
TreeID: Identifier of sampled tree
-
Salix_species: Willow species
-
Height_BrowsingBite_cm: Height of the browsing bite above ground (centimeters)
-
Diameter_BrowsingBite_mm: Diameter of the browsed twig (millimeters)
-
Herbivore_species: Mammalian herbivore responsible for the browsing bite; no_amplification indicates that species identity could not be determined via DNA analysis.
