Abstract
The data were used for time-to-event analysis (seedling emergence speed) and survival analysis for Leucaena leucocephala seedlings after predation by bruchine beetles. The objective was to evaluate the emergence speed of L. leucocephala seedlings subjected to predation by the bruchine beetle Acanthoscelides macrophthalmus, comparing with intact and scarified seeds. Furthermore, the survival of seedlings under these treatments was investigated. Therefore, the data includes treatments with intact, scarified and predated seeds.
This data was used while writing the manuscript entitled "Seed-feeding by bruchine beetles can accelerate seedling emergence but increases its long-term mortality", published in the Agricultural and Forest Entomology journal.

Description of the data and file structure
Files and variables
File: Emergence_speed.csv
Description: The file named “Emergence speed” shows the day of seedling emergence in the first column (Days), the treatments (Treat) in the second column, and the percentage of emergence (mean values) in the third column (Emer). The fourth column shows the standard error (EP) of the mean values of percentages of emergence.
Variables:
Days
Treat
Emer
EP
Treatments:
Scarified: (scarified seeds)
Intact: (intact seeds)
Infested: (seeds infested with bruchines)
File: All_data(emergence).csv
Description: In the file named “All data (emergence)”, the first column (treat) shows the treatments (scarified = scarified seeds; infested = seeds infested/predated by the bruchine; intact = intact seeds). The second column (rep) shows the replicates of each treatment, and the third column shows the exact day the seedling emerged (emer). The remaining columns (Days 1, 2, ..., 120) show the days on which we evaluated emergence. The number 1 in these columns refers to the day of emergence, remaining 1 until the end (facilitating cumulative observation).
Variables:

Day 1, 2, 3, ..., 120
Treatments:
Scarified: (scarified seeds)
Intact: (intact seeds)
Infested: (seeds infested with bruchines)
File: Survival.csv
Description: Finally, the “Survival” file shows in the first column the numbering that some seedlings received (pln), in the second column we have the day of death of a given seedling (death), in the third column we have the treatments (trat) (S = scarified seeds; P = seeds infested/predated by the bruchine; I = intact seeds). Then we have the groups (group) with values of 1 and 2, which refer to the locations where the seedlings were placed (table or shelf). The last column (status) shows 0 (live seedling) and 1 (dead seedling) at the end of the experiment.

I: (intact seeds)
P: (seeds infested with bruchines)

Code/software
The R software was used:R Development Core Team (2023) R: A language and environment for statistical computing. R foundation for Statistical Computing. Vienna, Austria. Version 4.2.3.
It is necessary to download the coxme package: we used the version 2.2-22.
Codes:
The R models we used are presented below:
1) For seedling emergence
model<-coxme(Surv(Emergence,Status)~Trat+(1|TubeLocation/Trat),data=dat)
2) For seedling survival
model<-coxme(Surv(Death,Status)~Trat+(1|TubeLocation/Trat),data1=dat)
