Abstract
This dataset contains the results of manual pollination experiments (intraspecific, interspecific, and double pollinations) among four species of the orchid genus Anacamptis: A. laxiflora (LAX), A. morio (MOR), A. papilionacea (PAP), and A. fragrans (FRA). Data were collected during controlled pollinations performed between 2020 and 2022. The dataset is organized into eight spreadsheet tabs, grouped by the pollen recipient species. For each species, the sheets include results on fruit set and the percentage of embryonated seeds for each pollination combination.
These data were used to evaluate the strength and asymmetry of post-pollination barriers and to explore their contribution to reproductive isolation in an orchid lineage characterized by low pollinator specialization. The dataset supports the findings reported in the manuscript “The interplay of early and late post-pollination pre-zygotic barriers in an orchid lineage with low pre-pollination isolation” (Masullo et al., submitted).

Description:
This dataset contains the results of manual pollination experiments among four species of the orchid genus Anacamptis:
- LAX = A. laxiflora
- MOR = A. morio
- PAP = A. papilionacea
- FRA = A. fragrans
Pollination types include:
- Interspecific pollinations
- Double pollinations (simultaneous application of conspecific and heterospecific pollen)
Files included:
- Full_crosses_dataset.xlsx: Excel workbook containing data from intrapecific, interspecific and double pollinations among four Anacamptis species. The file includes 8 sheets grouped by pollen recipient species and pollination type. Each sheet reports:
Pollen donor: code of the donor plantOvule recipient: code of the recipient plantFruit: YES/NO (whether fruit was formed)% Embryonic seeds: mean percentage of seeds containing embryos per cross
File format: Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
