Abstract

The package contains the validated track line data in GeoPackage format, projected in EPSG:27700 (BNG). This dataset contains 1,643 validated multilinestring geometries representing surfaced upland hill tracks across Great Britain. This dataset contains validated polyline geometries representing surfaced upland hill tracks across UK moorland, derived from manual review and realignment of lines to Getmapping PLC aerial imagery. Original track lines were drawn by Clutterbuck et al. 2020 using google earth imagery. The data were produced as part of a study investigating the distribution and extent of vehicle tracks in upland areas of Great Britain, with the aim of providing the first spatially comprehensive national-scale map of surfaced hill track infrastructure. The dataset is stored as a GeoPackage in British National Grid (EPSG:27700). Each feature includes the year of aerial imagery used for digitising (Year_1), OS BNG 10 km square reference (BNG_square), track type classification (track_type), access track category (access_tra), country (country), track length in kilometres (Length_km), and data provenance (Created). An RSPB editorial review flag (RSPB_edi) indicates features that have manual validation by RSPB staff. This dataset was used as a training dataset for CNN model development with Getmapping PLC imagery.
