Abstract
By 2050, most adults aged 65 and older in the United States will want to age independently at home, a goal that will strain healthcare resources. Adults aged 50 and older (N = 112) were recruited for study participation between 2018 and 2022. They completed surveys and participated in discussion sessions to explore their needs and opinions regarding smart home sensors. Results from surveys and discussion sessions were published in Sensors. Included here are the de-identified survey results. The data are uploaded in SPSS and excel format with codebooks available in both SPSS and a PDF.

Description of the data and file structure
This survey was completed via REDCap (a HIPAA compliant database) or on paper and entered into REDCap. Once data collection was complete, non PHI data were downloaded from REDCap for use in SPSS. REDCap provided the data dictionary and source code for generating the SPSS file. Recoding was completed in SPSS to collapse categories into analyzable groupings (e.g. home living arrangement). SPSS uses a period '.' to denote missing data. Missing data may have occurred if the individual did not wish to answer a question, or a question was not answered because of a skip pattern in the questionnaire.
The data are provided in both SPSS and CSV formats, and the codebooks are provided in both SPSS and PDF formats to ensure accessibility. In cases where individuals do not wish to use the SPSS format, they may either use the open-source JASP, which will read the SPSS structure and data, or use the CSV format and refer to the PDF of the codebook to evaluate the data in other than SPSS or a similar program. Both the SPSS and CSV datasets are identical in the data they provide. The codebooks are as well identical.

Data was derived from the following sources:
- Data were derived from a survey completed with older adults. Data were entered into REDcap and then exported to SPSS for recoding, analysis, and preparation of these data for sharing.
Human subjects data
The study was approved by the university IRB prior to the start of data collection. All participants provided consent for data collection. Any identifying information was removed from the dataset as part of preparation for data sharing. All names, and contact information was excluded from data extraction from REDCap. Prior to uploading the dataset, the file was reviewed by the university honest broker to ensure that de-identification was completed.
