Abstract
This data includes the digitized distribution data for European Sterrhinae in a 50 x 50 kilometres grid as well as a phylogenetic trees sample of 11,000 trees for European Sterrhinae. The distribution data is summarized in a geopackage (gpkg) with each species distribution as one feature, and the phylogenetic data in form of a '.trees' file. The data was used to analyse diversity patterns of European Sterrhinae focussing on species richness and phylogenetic diversity metrics, including Faith' PD, PE, NRI and NTI.

Description of the data and file structure
Distribution and phylogenetic data for European Sterrhinae was used to analyze their phylogenetic diversity, structure and endemism. For further details on the methodology please visit the full article (DOI: 10.1111/jbi.70284).

File: European_Sterrhinae_Distibution_ETRS89LAEA.gpkg
Description: Geopackage file containing all digitized distribution data for European Sterrhinae digitized in a 50 x 50 kilometres grid. Distribution data are based on the monograph series „Geometrid Moths of Europe“ (Hausmann, 2004; Hausmann & Viidalepp, 2012; Müller et al., 2019) and are supplemented with records from GBIF and more recent local literature for the Iberian Peninsula (Redondo et al., 2009), the United Kingdom (Randle et al., 2019), and Norway (Aarvik et al., 2009). Coordinate reference system IGNF:ETRS89LAEA – ETRS89 Lambert Azimutal Equal Area (unit: meters).

Description: Phylogenetic trees sample of 11,000 trees for European Sterrhinae, generated with BEAST, which was used for all further analyses. The first 1000 trees were removed as burn-in before analysis.
Code/software
distribution data is compatible with QGIS
Phylogenetic trees are stored in a .trees file
