Abstract
ANIS-E is a standardized, open-access database of marine Non-Indigenous Species (NIS) recorded in European seas. It compiles 6,060 introduction events across 18 marine ecoregions and 41 countries, covering 2,025 taxa with taxonomic identifiers from WoRMS and other global databases. For 1,539 taxa, native ranges are documented using the Marine Ecoregions of the World (MEOW) classification, enabling consistent biogeographic comparisons. The dataset provides information on introduction events (dates, locations, pathways, establishment status), taxonomy, and native ranges. ANIS-E supports research on invasion pathways, source regions, and biogeographic patterns, and is intended to inform biodiversity monitoring, conservation, and policy in Europe.

- year: The four-digit year in which the dwc:Event occurred, according to the Common Era Calendar.
- country: The name of the country or major administrative unit in which the dcterms:Location occurs.
- establishmentMeans: Statement about whether a dwc:Organism has been introduced to a given place and time through the direct or indirect activity of modern humans.
- degreeOfEstablishment: The degree to which a dwc:Organism survives, reproduces, and expands its range at the given place and time.

- ECO_CODE_X: Code of the Ecoregion in a short format.

We compiled a standardised database of marine non-indigenous species (NIS) detected in European seas, focusing on introduction events and native ranges at the scale of marine ecoregions (see Spalding et al. 2007). Introduction report data were obtained (1) from national listing datasets submitted under Descriptor 2 of the Europe Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2) for non-EU countries bordering European Seas, national listing was provided by their country’s respective competent authorities.
Data were cleaned by removing non-marine species, taxa with uncertain status, and introductions prior to 1492. Taxonomic names were standardised using WoRMS (via the worrms R package) and cross-referenced with identifiers from ITIS, EOL, IUCN, FishBase, AlgaeBase, NCBI, and BOLD on the 22/03/2027. Taxa reported only at genus or higher were excluded. In total, 2,025 taxa identified at the species level or below were retained, of which 1,799 are NIS, and 226 are cryptogenic.
Native ranges were determined through consultation of WoRMS, WRiMS, FishBase, AlgaeBase, and associated references, complemented by literature searches in scientific databases (Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, JSTOR) and species descriptions where necessary. Cryptogenic species (189 taxa) were excluded from the native range search. Native ranges were identified for 1,530 taxa, covering 84% of the NIS dataset.

This release provides a corrected version of the dataset. It fixes a data-processing issue that caused some records to be overwritten and others to be duplicated, affecting a subset of taxa. No schema changes were introduced.
