Abstract
This dataset contains information captured from the specimens' sheets of Pteridium spp. found in the herbarium OAX. The objective of this study was to document the available information on the distribution, vegetation types, and taxonomic identification of bracken specimens collected in the Southern Mexico Mountains. We detected outdated taxonomic names and misidentification problems. In such cases, we corrected the names following Zhou et al. (2014, Taxon, 63, 509-521) and Hassler's (1994-2024).

The table includes id number (col. A), original species name (col. B), the name after revision (col C), elevation (m a.s.l.)(col. D), vegetation (columns E to O), Place 1 (col. P) refers to the name of closest town, while place 2 refers to the name of the region (col. Q). Number 1 in any of the vegetation columns indicate that the specimen was collected or observed in the corresponding vegetation type; conversely, a 0 indicates that such specimen was not collected or observed there. n/a indicates no information available.
