Abstract
This dataset contains multilocus genotype data for two solitary bee species, Osmia cornuta and Osmia bicornis, generated using 11 microsatellite markers. All specimens were collected in Switzerland and include both contemporary samples collected in 2023 and historical specimens collected between 1990 and 2000 from Swiss entomological collections. For a subset of individuals, the dataset also reports the NCBI accession numbers of mitochondrial DNA sequences (COI region) generated as part of this study. These data enable comparisons of genetic variation and population structure between O. cornuta and O. bicornis, as well as between historical and contemporary populations, using a common set of neutral genetic markers.

Description of the data and file structure
The genetic data were generated to support a spatio-temporal analysis aimed at assessing the effects of Osmia spp. management practices in Switzerland. Samples were collected from three distinct sampling sites across the country and include both contemporary field-collected specimens and historical museum specimens accessed through several Swiss natural history museum collections.
Files and variables
File: Osmia_bicornis-contemporary.xlsx
Description:
Variables
- sample_ID: code to identify each sample.
- Nest: Identifier of the artificial nest from which each bee was sampled. “n/a” indicates that the sample was not collected from a placed trap nest but was provided by a commercial breeder (BREEDER1 or BREEDER2) from managed Osmia spp. populations.
- Sampling area: where the trap nest was located.
- MtDNA seq: Name assigned to each mitochondrial (mtDNA) sequence generated in this study and used in the analyses and publication. “n/a” indicates that mitochondrial DNA was not sequenced for that specimen.
- GenBank: Accession number of each sequence deposited in GenBank, through which the sequence can be accessed and downloaded. “n/a” indicates that no mitochondrial sequence was generated for that specimen.
- Obic-1374, Obic-168, Obic-1181, Obic-629, Obic-73, Obic-740, Obic-1206, Obic-220, Obic-95, Oru-S8, Oru-E5: Microsatellite markers used to genotype the bees. For each marker, both alleles are reported. A value of “0” indicates that the locus did not amplify and that both allele values are missing.
