Abstract
This dataset contains experimental measurements of glomerular sieving coefficients for neutral and anionic polysucrose (Ficoll) in healthy anesthetized Wistar rats under baseline conditions and during glucagon-induced hyperfiltration. Glomerular filtration rate was determined using both FITC-inulin and 51Cr-EDTA clearance. Sieving coefficients were measured across a broad range of hydrodynamic radii using high-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC), providing detailed glomerular sieving curves spanning approximately five orders of magnitude in permeability.
The study employed a 2 × 2 factorial design with two polysucrose charge states (neutral and anionic) and two filtration states (baseline and hyperfiltration). Hyperfiltration was induced by glucagon infusion combined with volume loading. The dataset includes raw chromatographic data, processed sieving coefficients, glomerular filtration rate measurements, and derived molecular radius calibrations.
These data may be useful for studies of glomerular size and charge selectivity, macromolecular transport, pore-theory modeling, electrostatic effects in biological filtration barriers, dimensionality reduction, principal component analysis, and the development and validation of mechanistic models of glomerular filtration.

Description of the data and file structure
This dataset contains experimental measurements of glomerular permeability obtained in healthy male Wistar rats under baseline conditions and during glucagon-induced hyperfiltration.
Glomerular sieving coefficients were measured using fluorescently labeled neutral polysucrose and negatively charged (anionic) polysucrose spanning a broad range of hydrodynamic radii. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was determined using FITC-inulin and 51Cr-EDTA clearance. Animals were studied during baseline conditions and after induction of hyperfiltration by glucagon infusion combined with volume expansion.
The dataset consists of two Microsoft Excel files:
reduced.xls contains the reduced dataset used for nonlinear mixed-effects (NLME) model fitting. This file includes physiological variables, glomerular filtration rate measurements, and a subset of representative polysucrose sieving coefficients selected for computationally efficient estimation of distributed two-pore model parameters.
full.xls contains the complete set of measured glomerular sieving coefficients for all available polysucrose radii. This file was used for correlation analyses, principal component analyses, and exploratory analyses of the dimensional structure of glomerular transport. Column names beginning with “GFR” identify individual animals (1-6: neutral polysucrose, 8-15: charge-modified polysucrose). Columns ending with “b” represent baseline measurements, whereas columns without a suffix represent measurements obtained during hyperfiltration. The variable “radius” denotes the hydrodynamic radius of the polysucrose fraction in Ångström units.
