Abstract
The dataset contains three separate datasets, called Bagging experiment data, Outdoor garden data and Greenhouse experiment data. The Bagging experiment data contains data on median seed set (%) of one bagged and one unbagged panicle on each of 20 individuals from each of two populations of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis, grown from seed to reproductive maturity in a greenhouse. The Outdoor garden experiment data contains data on the cumulative number of panicles recorded over time in plastic trays sown with the same mix of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis seeds but differing in the presence or absence of concrete slabs. The Greenhouse experiment data: contains phenotypic data from multiple populations of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis grown from seed to reproductive maturity under uniform conditions in a greenhouse.

Description of the data and file structure
The data represent three separate datasets, called Bagging experiment data, Outdoor garden data and Greenhouse experiment data, resulting from a research project on two grass species (Eragrostis minor and E. albensis, Poaceae), entitled “Invasiveness traits and their adaptive potential in relation to colonisation history of two alien grasses” and carried out at the Department of Biology, Lund University.
Files and variables
File: Bagging_experiment_data.xlsx
Description: This data set contains data on median seed set (%) of one bagged and one unbagged panicle on each of 20 individuals from each of two populations of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis, grown from seed to reproductive maturity in a greenhouse.
Variables
- Species: The identity of the species
- Site: The identity of the site from which the individual originated (harbor vs. inland)
- Latitude/longitude: The latitude and longitude of the site from which the individual originated, based on the WSG 84 system
- Plant: The identity of the individual on which two panicles were bagged or unbagged, respectively
- Seed set of bagged/unbagged panicle: The median percentage of florets setting seed, based on five spikelets per panicle
File: Outdoor_garden_data.xlsx
Description: This data set contains data on the cumulative number of panicles recorded over time in plastic trays sown with the same mix of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis seeds but differing in the presence or absence of concrete slabs.
Variables
- Block: The identity of a pair of trays (one of each type), placed together in the same sand-bed
- Type of tray: The presence or absence of slabs in a tray within a block
- Species: The identity of the species providing the data
- Site: The identity of the site from which the seed material originated (harbor vs. inland, for latitude/longitude, see Bagging experiment data)
- June 13, June 22, July 2... etc: The cumulative number of panicles recorded at particular dates in the summer
File: Greenhouse_experiment_data.xlsx
Description: This data set contains phenotypic data from multiple populations of Eragrostis minor and E. albensis grown from seed to reproductive maturity under uniform conditions in a greenhouse. Each row represents data from a separate individual. A dot within a dataset denotes missing data.
Variables
- Species: The identity of the species
- Site: The identity of the site from which the individual originated (arbitrary code numbers)
- Latitude/longitude: The latitude and longitude of the site from which the individual originated, according to WSG 84
- Family: The identity of the seed family to which the individual belonged. Each family was derived from the same maternal plant in the field
- Onset of reproduction: The date in March at which the first panicle emerged
- Culm height: The length of the main stem (cm)
- Panicle length: The length of the terminal panicle (mm)
- Panicles per plant: The number of panicles per plant
- Spikelets per panicle: The number of spikelets in the terminal panicle
- Florets per spikelet: The average number of florets in two spikelets in the basal part of the terminal panicle
- Florets per plant: The product of the number of panicles per plant, the number of spikelets per panicle and the number of florets per panicle
